Vince Vaughn at his best in Brawl In Cell Block 99 ( @BrawlMovie ‏ )

Whilst generally known for his comedic roles. Actor Vince Vaughn has tackled a lot of dramatic roles over there years, in films such as Hacksaw Ridge, Psycho, Return to Paradise, and The Cell, all to success. However nothing has come close to the fantastic performance that he delivers in S Craig Zahlers 2017 film Brawl In Cell Block 99, a no holds barred drama which stars Vince in the role of Bradley Thomas (dont call him Brad) a man whos day starts off badly when he loses his job, and things get worse from there on in. Bradley gets home early, finds out his wife (brilliantly played by Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter))) has been cheating on him for at least 3 months. But you think thats a bad day. Things get even worse in this two hour movie. Vince is intimidating with his towering height and his shaven head and within moments of this film we forget totally that this is the same actor from Dodgeball, or Wedding Crashers and all the other comedy roles over the years. If there is one role and one film that to me sums up how good an actor Vince Vaughn is, then its this one.

If you have seen the previous film by S Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk) then youll know that he doesnt flinch away from showing brutality and Brawl In Cell Block 99 certainly doesnt change that way of thinking. Whilst the film certainly isnt a gore fest (nor was Bone Tomahawk) but when violence is needed to showcase the story or the characters, then you most certainly get it. In spades! Its also wonderful to see Don Johnson back on screen again (where has he been?) who is fantastic in a cigar smoking, by the numbers, somewhat nasty character in the film. Im not going into any plot details as part of the journey in this film is watching the decent into hell by Bradley. A genuinely nice guy who has ended up on the wrong path.

With only 2 released films so far, S Craig Zahler is batting 100% and this bodes very well for his next film Dragged Across Concrete.
