Those of you who spend a lot of time on Twitter, and who are part of the filmmaking community will sure have come across #showreelshareday which was originally created by Actress Kate Davies Speak ( @KateDaviesSpeak ) ( https://www.imdb.com/name/nm5822934/?ref_=nv_sr_1) and has since gone from something wonderful and helpful to being something that has taken off like a Millennium Falcon from Mos Eisley. Not a week goes by (in fact not a day goes by) where I dont see dozens (if not more) people sharing their own showreels, but also sharing and commenting on other peoples showreels. What a fun and wonderful filmmaking community we have and Kate has done a fantastic job (and still does) But earlier on this week, I saw Kate come up with another idea that I too think its a great one and its one that I want participate in help others in the same way they have helped me with my own projects.
So what is it? Well if you’ve read the heading on this article then youll know that #WebSeriesWeekend will soon be a thing. So if you know of a web series that you love, and yes if you happen to also be involved in one, then you can of course include yourself in the #WebSeriesWeekend and tell us about the show in a pitch length twee, and include a link to either the pilot episode of the show or perhaps just your favourite episode of the show. There are hundreds of web series out there and the sad thing is, a lot of them dont get the attention they deserve because they find themselves buried under the millions of links to cat videos (not that there is anything wrong with those, i love them)
So beginning on the weekend of October 13th, lets start #WebSeriesWeekend on Twitter and every weekend after that until the whole world has seen every web series known to air breather.
Please do remember to use the hashtag though or your show (or someone elses) will still be lost in the mass of tweets about Rian Johnson or Justin Beiber.
Lets make #WebSeriesWeekend a thing and help other creative souls get their work seen not by thousands, but by MILLIONS.
