The Initiation, takes us back to the 80s slasher genre by Arrow ( @arrowfilmsvideo )

Taking a trip back into the films of ones youth is always a fun thing to do on a weekend. For me my childhood film watching years spanned from around 1978 where I was watching science fiction epics such as Star Wars, Superman and Close Encounters of the Third Kind to 1984. Around 1984 I discovered (or was introduced to) horror films such as The Exorcist The Omen, and Xtro. After 1978s Halloween and 1980’s Friday The 13th, the 80s were awash with slasher movies and ‘teen’ horror movies focused on teens being hunted by something or someone. College girls being slaughtered and chased as they wear nightwear or sometimes even less. These films are most certainly a sign of the times and whilst some of them havent dated too well over the years both in subject matter or hairstyles. Its still a fun trip to find some of these films on DVD or Blu Ray and see the sort of films we were all watching thirty years ago.

One of these films is The Initiation, Directed by Larry Stewart who went from directing episodes of The Waltons, The Bionic Woman and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century to this adult horror focusing on the college world and a deranged killer whos intent on killing of not only the girls but also their boyfriends.

Arrow Video have once again (as they always do) given a great treatment to a film that a lot of people may not have seen and as always, they give enough special features to give a highly interesting but also entertaining look behind the scenes of the film, its legacy and its creation.
