Whilst for Signature Entertainment, the great news is that they have secured UK distribution rights for the much anticipated heist thriller, THE HATTON GARDEN JOB, based on the extraordinary robbery of £14m worth of jewels from London’s Hatton Garden Vault by seasoned thieves, which took place in April, 2015.
THE HATTON GARDEN JOB will be the first feature film to catalogue the remarkable burglary, which begins shooting this week and is set for a late 2016 release by Signature Entertainment.
For me the great news is that Ronnie Thompson is making another film for me to watch. Okay so hes not JUST making it for me to watch but I’m super excited that hes working on a film that I know I will love. I first ‘discovered’ Ronnie Thompson from the film (and book) Screwed (2011) which is a great prison film featuring Noel Clarke (Brotherhood), Frank Harper (The Football Factory), Ray Panthaki (Convenience) , Andrew Shim (This is England) and a whole long list of other talent in a great film based on the book written by Ronnie Thompson. I then checked out the wonderful thriller Tower Block after chatting on my podcast with actor Nabil Elouahabi who featured in the film. Tower Block also features Russell Tovey (Being Human), Jack O Connell (Starred Up), and Sheridan Smith (Cilla) and was written by Ronnie and Directed by the great team of Ronnie Thompson and James Nunn (Green Street 3) More recently Ronnie directed I Am Soldier which told us what its like to try out for The Special Air Service (S.A.S.). Featuring a great cast as always with names such as Noel Clarke (Adulthood), Josh Myers (Anti Social), Allistair McNab (Bad Moon Rising) to name three. Great fun films you should check out.
For The Hatton Garden Job a quality British cast is headed up by The Imitation Game and Downton Abbey star Matthew Goode and Joely Richardson (The Patriot, TV’s Nip Tuck), whilst the ringleaders of the robbery will be played by TV favourite Larry Lamb (TV’s Gavin & Stacey, Eastenders) as Brian Reader, Stephen Moyer (TV’s True Blood), Phil Daniels (Quadrophenia), David Calder (Rush, Lady in the Van) and Clive Russell (Sherlock Holmes, TV’s Game of Thrones). Presenter/actress Sarah-Jane Crawford (TV’s The X-Factor) and Mark Harris (Offender, Abducted) round out the impressive cast.
With celebrated British filmmaker Ronnie Thompson in the director’s chair, I’m very much adding this film to my ‘anticipated list’
Currently shooting on location in and around London, the film picks up with a mysterious thief, who is presented with an opportunity to take down the exclusive Hatton Garden Vault just days after leaving prison. It’s an old school job, requiring old school skills. With real life twists and turns as though written for a movie, The Hatton Garden Job follows our convict recruiting a team of veteran British criminals all eager for one final chance at glory. Together they must stay ahead of the law, dodge hired mercenaries and make deals with the head of the Hungarian mafia.
Commenting on the company’s latest acquisition Signature Entertainment owner and CEO, Marc Goldberg, said: “We are delighted to be distributing the first film of this extraordinary story that has continued to captivate the public at every turn. Audiences can look forward to watching the biggest burglary in English history play out on screens later this year.”
