What happened to: The kid from The Shining

Doing some research for an up and coming podcast about Stanley Kubricks The Shining, it got me to wondering whether or not Danny Lloyd (playing Danny Torrance) was still acting. Checking out his IMDB link indicates that he stopped acting in 1982, some more research dug up this recent photo of him. (although Danny did appear in a cameo in Doctor Sleep, his first onscreen role in over three decades)

According to a source, Danny Lloyd teaches Anatomy and Physiology in Elizabethtown, Kentucky at the community college. Strange tale that I ‘heard’ though he apparently kicked a guy out of a class because the guy asked if he was the kid in “The Shining”. (although as we all know the internet can be filled with hearsay, so until I know that story to be true. I will remind everyone that its just a story that’s out there…)

I do hope that story isn’t true. as people love The Shining and Danny was excellent in it. But The Shining does have its obsessives, those who say its about this, its about that, its about genocide, its about moon landings, its about the native American,  and whilst all those theories are fascinating, I like to think The Shining is about a family in a hotel over the winer.

I also did hear a rumour (or rather I read a rumour) has it that at the beginning of each semester, Danny tells his students ‘anyone asking about The Shining, fails the class’

As some updates to this article (well more a bunch of words I put together rather than an article) If you look online and search Danny Lloyd appearances, You can see that Danny has started appearing at some conventions, and has some scheduled for 2023. so perhaps the stories of Danny not liking his past role in the Kubrick film are starting to thaw and Danny is now embracing just how much people do want to meet him (I hope so) Danny also has a Twitter (X) account which he doesn’t use often but has commented on The Shining, so that also backs up evidence to say that the ‘he doesn’t talk about the film’ stories are in fact- not true.
